As many of you know, Danny Gregory was one of the people who started me on my journaling journey. His book ‘Everyday Matters’ inspired me to start drawing again. So it is wonderful to see inside some of his original sketchbooks. Danny made a habit to draw something everyday – here you will see what inspired him – his local neighborhood, the conents of his kitchen cupboard, or drawings from newspapers and magazines…
I am delighted to bring you a treat for the New Year - an Interview with Danny Gregory. Danny is well known to many from his books including – Everyday Matters, and A Creative Licence.
Danny has recently published a new book ‘An Illustrated Life – Drawing inspiration from the private sketchbooks of artists, illustrators and designers’ checkout a video preview of it here
I am delighted to introduce Kolby Kirk, a passionate travel journaler – in our August interview feature
When I write in my journal… I try to include details that might fade with time, such as the weather, or my health … I also try to concentrate on recording more than just the sights, but also the other senses. What does Paris smell like? What does a Nicaraguan jungle sound like?… My journals act as a way for me to stimulate my senses while I’m travelling in the moment as well as a way to bring these memories back years later.
I am delighted to introduce Anita Davies – in our March Interview feature.
“(my journals) allow me to record memories, not the big dramatic stuff we all remember because it’s annual or we were sad but the little things that can be so easily forgotten; holding my child’s hand by the sea, watching a school pantomime, recording an emotion as it happens, keeping it fresh forever..”
Dan Price was one of my original inspirations for starting a journal. For the last 10 years he has been keeping a daily journal of his life and publishing it as a Zine called Moonlight Chronicles.
This is a fascinating interview with Dan, and is especially interesting to watch if you feel you can’t draw, he talks us through how he started and gained inspiration from his then 4 year old son (this is near the end of the video)
I am delighted to introduce Karen Blados – in our first ‘interview’ feature.
“In my journal, I’m drawing what I want to draw, the way I want to draw it and I don’t have to answer to anyone else. It’s allowed me to recapture the joy and enthusiasm I had for drawing as a child. Simply put, it’s just plain fun again.”
