We’ve kept it all as natural as possible and about 10 years ago, wild blackberries started growing down by the creek. My 16-year-old son loves wild blackberry pie! One day, I came back from my run and couldn’t find him anywhere in the house or yard. Finally, I wondered down by the creek and there he was picking blackberries so I would make him another pie. Touched by his efforts and love for something I baked, I of course made it.

I prefer to bind my own art journals with watercolor paper. I have used Moleskines in the past and will embellish the cover to make it unique. I prefer to use Crayola water colors, the kind we all used in Kindergarten, because it’s easy to use and transport, cheap to replace, and offers vibrant true colors. I finish my artwork with art pens, my favorites being Faber-Castell PITT, Pigma Micron, and Staedtler pigment liner.”

“I find the hardest thing about making dinner is DECIDING what to make. After a long day at work, I’m not up for a leisurely meal that includes trips to 3 stores for exotic ingredients. I often make something very easy that turns out to be great; then I promptly forget all about that dish! No more! I have started to collect those easy weeknight recipes in a book block, illustrated as the whim strikes, to be bound into a cover later. This is watercolor pencil with some “sanded” pigment dropped onto the wetted pencil.”
