Visual Journalism 101 – online workshop

with Pam Carriker
Start Date April 6th

Visual Journalism 101 Pam Carriker

Due to popular demand Pam is once again running her Visual Journalism 101 workshop

This will be an 5 week expedition into the world of visual journalling.. If you have ever wanted to start keeping an art journal, or started one, only to have it fall by the wayside, then this is the class for you! The class will cover journal techniques, putting together a journalling kit, completing at least 7 journal pages, and answer some road block questions like, ‘How do I get over the fear of the Blank Page?’, ‘How can I possibly fit another artistic pursuit into my schedule?’, and ‘Where do I start?’

Pam’s class will be a mix of images, written instructions and video
Workshop begins April 6th – May 4th

WORKSHOP FEE: $55.00
The workshop fee automatically confers alumni status to the purchaser. Alumni will have a special page with 24/7 video access once the class is completed.

Supply List for Visual Journalism 101

Note: Visual Journalling is about discovery. The supplies listed are basic supplies, but you are encouraged to explore and use additional supplies that you probably already have. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Journal-this can be of your choosing, the one I am using is a spiral bound Watercolor Field Notebook 7×9, purchased from Michael’s.
  • Charcoal pencils, a 2B, 4B, 5D, and white (General brand has all in one package) are prefered but any charcoal pencils will work
  • Blending stump, medium sized
  • Watercolor pencils or crayons
  • Brush with water reservoir (found with stamping supplies at Michael’s), a regular small round brush will be fine also
  • White Gel Pen
  • Black Sharpie, fine point
  • Soft Gel Medium (I use Goldens)
  • Spray sealer, matte
  • Assorted stamps, papers, pens, colored pencils, images, things that you probably already have on hand. The class will provide 4 collage sheets from Shabby Cottage Studio.
  • Glue Stick (UHU brand works great, but any good glue stick will work)
  • scissors
  • exacto knife
  • acrylic paint (whatever you have will be fine, if you need to purchase some, cheap, bottled acrylics in a few colors you like will work great)
  • Staz On (solvent/permanent) ink pad(s) Black, other colors are great but not necessary
  • Foam Stamps, alphabet set (the cheap ones for painting)

Participants from the UK and Europe can purchase many of these supplies at the Journal Craft Store
